CAMPING AND HIKING AT JULIAN PRICE CAMPGROUND
Friday– Monday, August 23-26
Trip # AD2406
Escape the summer heat and join RSOC for camping at Julian Price Campground, located near the scenic the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are lots of hiking options nearby, and Julian Price has a lake that is popular for boating and fishing. Canoe rentals are available.
Amenities include grills, flush toilets, showers, food storage lockers, drinking water, picnic tables, fire pit, and lake access. Campers reserve their own campsite. There is no fee to change the number of nights or campsite, so reserve sooner than later to secure a spot. See https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234037
Popular Hikes/Sites include:
Hebron Falls: A small waterfall accessed from the Boone Fork Trail.
The Cascades: A beautiful waterfall accessed by the easy one-mile loop Cascades Trail.
Moses Cone Flat Top Manor: A historic estate house once owned by the Cone family. The grounds offer 25 miles of carriage roads to hike. Tours of the home are available, and it houses the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
Price Lake Trail: hike around the edge of the water.
Boone Fork, Green Knob and Tanawha Trails are a few of the trails conveniently accessed through the campground. The popular Tanawha Trail leads hikers through a range of terrains, such as thickets of laurel and rhododendron, hardwood coves, evergreen glens, boulder fields, and cascading streams. Overall, the trail is easy to moderate. Accesses from the parkway lets us chose how long a section to hike, and we can carpool to hike one way.
The following activities are available (and possibly more) as we firm up the itinerary:

Canoeing
Tour of Moses Cone Manor
