About this event

CAMPING/HIKING AT SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK, VIRGINIA
Thursday-Sunday, August 13-16
Trip # AD2605

WARNING: AVAILABLE REMAINING CAMPSITES ARE VERY LIMITED.

From August 13-16 we will camp at the park’s Big Meadows campground, and include an optional hotel stay in Harrisonburg on August 17.

First of all, this is a National Park; so don’t forget to bring your NATIONAL  PARK PASS if you have one.

Shenandoah National Park is a majestic park going south to north for 75 miles along  the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. The park includes over 75 scenic overlooks along the way.

We will be camping Thursday, Friday and Saturday (optionally Sunday) evenings at Big Meadows Campground located  4.5 hours from Raleigh at Mile Marker 51 in the park.  Monday may be an optional trip to a commercial cave in the Harrisonburg area.

Big Meadows Campground is very popular and you should make reservations as soon as possible.  Prior to doing so, contact the Coordinator to show your interest and to determine where the Coordinator is camping so that our group will be in proximity.

All camping reservations/costs are up to the participants. If we do an optional cave tour Monday, you may want to make a hotel reservation in the Harrisonburg (don’t reserve the hotel reservation until you have more information on this).

Just south of the park there is a winery and brewery, so factor this in your trip up to the campground. Additionally, once in the park there are plenty of scenic overlooks on your way to the Big Meadows area. Enjoy hiking the many choices of trails the park has to offer. There are four major trails available in the Big Meadows area.

More information is available at: https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/index.htm
