GOLFING AT DRIVE SHACK

The November 14 social meeting will be at Drive Shack in Raleigh. For the folks that are not familiar with Drive Shack, it is a unique golf driving range. The setup is three levels of booths for up to six players (but, four is probably better).

If you are interested in trying your hand at golf that night, please contact the Coordinator, Tom Garrett, at anew_phase@yahoo.com in order to get an idea of the number of bays to request. Indicate “Golf” in the subject line.

You can use their golf equipment (good) or bring your own. This is not intended to improve your golf game, it’s rather part of a fun night out.

They have equipment that reports your ball flight, launch angle and ball speed (for techies) and you can play either target golf (darts, black jack, etc.) or a simulated golf course from a par 3 to St. Andrews. The bays’ TVs show the courses, your results and location on the “course” or on the dart board, etc.

The Coordinator’s experience was that there were a mix of good and not so good golfers. When asked, both groups said they were having fun; so, being a golfer is not necessary. The bay rate is $47/hour with four people in a bay it is about $12 an hour.

You don’t have to play golf, though, and can just hang out with the club at the bar/restaurant. There is food and beverages and you can watch the golfers for comic relief.

Event fee:  The bay rate if $47/hour; so with four people per bay, the cost is about $12/hour
